Why “Gasbuggy”?

On December 10, 1967, the Atomic Energy Commission lowered a 29-kiloton nuclear device 4,227 feet beneath the Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico and set it off — an attempt to fracture rock and free natural gas. They called it Project Gasbuggy, part of Operation Plowshare's search for peaceful uses of the atom.

It worked, sort of. The gas came out radioactive. But you have to admire the swing: an audacious tool, aimed at an ordinary problem.

That's the spirit here. Gasbuggy Media is an independent web & app studio based in New Mexico.
